STRING PRACTICES |
STRING PRACTICE # 2.1 Botanical Garden, Coimbra |
After the site-specific performance String Practice #1, John Klima and I decided to develop the work with portable instruments, and a new graphic score. In the subsequent performances, I played the zither and AG#3 - audio-visual 3D software that processes sound and image based on pitch detection from the zither input. Outdoor performances with daylight dispensed with any visual projection. In indoor performances, the image functioned as a dynamic stage scene. John performed with an instrument made of wires and other metal components; he captured their magnetic resonances with pickups made from scratch. The name of this project series is a playful homage to string theory. String theory seeks to unify the theory of relativity and quantum mechanics. It affirms that all matter is formed of small filaments of energy, describing how they propagate in space and interact with each other. |
